The program is widely recognised in the industry as G1, G8 and G9 training, previously referred to as S1, S2 and S3.

Course Overview

This course has been designed for individuals wishing to perform the duties of a Supervisor or Mine Safety and Health Representative as detailed in the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act. This course is mandatory for mining industry supervisors in QLD. It meets the requirements for the position of Supervisor in the Resources Industry under s.56 of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 and s.51 of the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999.

Who needs this Mining Supervisor Training?

Personnel appointed to statutory positions in the mining industry must possess the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out their responsibilities effectively. The required competencies for statutory roles at coal mines, mineral mines, and quarries are determined by the Coal Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee and the Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee.

The units of competency included in this course are mandatory for the following statutory positions:

• Supervisors: Supervisors on mines employing more than 10 persons and where the position is identified in the management structure as one whose duties include allocation of tasks to others, and other supervisors where directed by an inspector of mines
• Site safety and health representatives: These competencies are to be obtained within three months of appointment

Certification

Learners who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment which is recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. On successful completion, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment with the following units:

• RIIRIS301E – Apply Risk Management Processes
• RIIWHS301E – Conduct safety and Health Investigations
• RIICOM301E – Communicate Information

This is an open entry course with no pre-requisite qualifications. To ensure you complete the course successfully, the following entry requirements apply:
